Government Shutdown Will Close Constitution, Bunker Hill

Both sites are part of the National Parks Service.

With less than 24 hours before the scheduled government shutdown, it now appears that unless a last minute compromise is reached, two prominent Charlestown landmarks will close until a budget is passed in the Congress.

If the US House of Representatives and the US Senate doesn’t pass a budget by midnight, Tuesday, Oct. 1, all non-essential government workers will be told to stay home which means the The USS Constitution and Bunker Hill Monument would be closed, as both run by the National Parks Service.

It won't be the first time that politics have shut the doors to these landmarks: it has happened before, briefly in 1995 and 1996
