Timeline: The Dog Poisoning Case

From police report to firing, here's how this story has unfolded so far.

The announcement we reported Tuesday that the Bricklayer's Local 3 had terminated Kenneth Hyland, 53, of Everett likely marks the last we'll hear of this story for the foreseable future.

Hyland is now in the criminal justice system and is also facing unrelated charges. Working his way through may take some time.

Sunday, Sept. 16

  • A resident confronts Hyland and tells the police that he saw the landscaper scattering tainted hot dog pieces on the lawn. Police take the report and begin their investigation. A concerned resident also informs Durty Harry's, which begins spreading word of the incident on the store's Facebook page.

Monday, Sept. 17

  • Concerned residents begin sending emails to Charlestown Patch about what they saw. Editor Matt M. Casey is on vacation.

Tuesday, Sept. 18

  • More residents send email to Charlestown Patch. Editor Matt M. Casey returns from vaction and responds, looking for something he can pin the story to.

Wednesday, Sept. 19

  • One of the concerned residents sends Charlestown Patch a police report from the Sept. 16 confrontation. The first story goes live at 9:45 a.m. By that evening, it has appeared on TV news out of Boston.

Thursday, Sept. 20

  • The Charlestown Patch version of the story accumulates more than 1,000 recommendations on Facebook. We publish a follow-up highlighting some important takeways from the previous days comments.

Friday, Sept. 21

  • Police arrest Hyland.

Monday, Sept. 24

  • Hyland faces a judge. . The Bricklayers Local 3 issue a statement late in the day, but will not send it electronically.

Tuesday, Sept. 25

  • Charlestown Patch retrieves the Bricklayers' statement, which says that Hyland worked for them, but has now been terminated.
