Fallen American Flag Causes Crash on Zakim Bridge

The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 12.

An American flag that fell from atop Boston's Zakim Bridge caused a minor car crash Friday afternoon.

"The large flag that flies over the Zakim apparently fell onto a vehicle in the southbound lane, causing the motorist to spin out and strike the median," according to a report from Massachusetts State Police.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m.

A 2010 Toyota Camry received minor damage to its bumper in the crash, and the driver, a 55-year-old woman, was uninjured, State Police said.

"The flag is currently being picked up and crews are working to reopen the roadway," State Police said in the report.
