CHARTS: Boston Crime Down 7 Percent in 2012, Charlestown Down 20 Percent

Crime is down all over the city this year versus the same period in 2011.

Crime has declined across Boston so far in 2012, but nowhere has it declined as much as it has in Charlestown, according to data released by the Boston Police Department this week.

The town’s crime rate has dropped a hearty 20 percent when comparing Jan. 1 though Aug. 19, 2011, to Jan. 1 through Aug. 19, 2012. That’s nearly three-times the 7 percent decline in crime the city has seen for the same period.

City-wide, only one district—the downtown A-1 district—saw an increase in crime. Similarly, most types of crime have notched downward—though Boston has seen two additional homicide incidents in 2012 when compared to 2011, and has also seen a marginal increase in aggravated assaults.

See the above graphs or the department’s original table for more.

Theft is down. The rest is basically the same. I guess as long as it's not just theft reporting that's changed, it's something to be happy about.
