Charlestown Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Pregnant Girlfriend

A former Charlestown man was sentenced today after pleading guilty to attacking his pregnant girlfriend and then making calls to her home in the after the assault, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today. 

MATTHEW MCDONALD (D.O.B. 4/7/84) formerly of Charlestown pled guilty in Boston Municipal Court today to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery and aggravated assault and battery for an April 2010 attack on his pregnant girlfriend. In addition, he pled guilty to a charge of witness intimidation for making calls to the victim’s Winthrop home.

For the assault, Judge Michael J. Coyne sentenced McDonald to two years in the house of correction, suspended for a period of two years. He was sentenced to five years probation on the charge of witness intimidation.

His sentences will run concurrent to his sentence in a federal drug case. 

McDonald was ordered to stay away from his victim and barred both from blogging about the victim or the events related to the complaints against him and from attempting to profit from this in any way.

The assistant district attorney assigned to the case was Sue Terrey. McDonald was represented by attorney Steve Tassinari.
