Bicyclist Identified in Fatal Charlestown Accident

A Chelsea man was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Charlestown on Thursday, and a Swampscott man was subsequently charged.

Authorities this weekend identified the bicyclist who was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Charlestown's Sullivan Square on Thursday.

The bicyclist was identified as of Owen McGrory, 30, of Chelsea; his identity was withheld until Saturday pending notification of relatives, according to the Boston Globe.

McGrory was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the afternoon of Thursday, April 4 in the area of Cambridge and Spice streets at 1:40 p.m.

Detectives were able to locate the vehicle allegedly involved in the incident, described as a white garbage truck, in Revere Thursday night. Ricky Prezioso, 41, of Swampscott, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, and the investigation is ongoing. 

A not-guilty please was entered on Prezioso's behalf on Friday in Charlestown Municipal Court, and he is due back in court May 19, according to the Globe.
