Accident Closes Zakim Bridge Northbound Monday Morning

Expect major delays as the northbound side of highway completely closed.

An accident closed the Northbound side of the Zakim Bridge Monday morning, as well as the left lane on the Southbound side of I-93. One person has died in the crash. 

The State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Photo and troopers assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley’s office are all on scene to assist in the investigation.

The northbound side of the highway is still closed as of 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. All lanes southbound are open (the left lane was closed earlier).

There were reports just after 5:30 a.m. Monday morning of a tractor trailer and a car on fire on I-93 North on the Zakim Bridge. Boston Fire officials say both car were on fire and that the tractor trailer was carrying produce. 

The crash occurred on I-93 Boston on the Zakim Bridge prior to Exit 27.

All Northbound traffic is currently being detoured onto Exit 26 and investigators are on the scene.
