Irene A. (Salvo) Hamilton, Lifelong Charlestown Resident

Irene A. (Salvo) Hamilton, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013 at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading following a brief illness.

Hamilton was 95 years old.

Hamilton was born in Boston on Oct. 13, 1917, a daughter of the late Charles Salvo and May (Lambi) Salvo. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system, and graduated from Charlestown High School. 

Hamilton was a life-long homemaker whose main interests in life were her family and oil painting.

Hamilton was the beloved wife of the late Edward "Hammy" Hamilton. 

She is the devoted mother of Loretta (Orpen) Woods and her late husband, John "Buster", Woods of Charlestown, Joan (Orpen) Joyce and her husband, John, of Tewksbury, and Irene "Bunny" (Hamilton) Fratalia and her husband, Vincent, of Tewksbury. 

Hamilton was the loving Nana of 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She also leaves a sister, Josephine LaBlanc of Weymouth, and the late Sally Smith, Geraldine Lawless, Donald Wilson, and Charles Salvo. She is also the beloved sister-in-law of the late Marion Rochford.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Hamilton's Funeral Service on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St., in Charlestown. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. There are no visiting hours.
