Anne Tiernan: Lifelong Charlestown Resident, Active Swimmer

Anne T. Tiernan, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, passed away peacefully of April 28, 2014 at the age of 86 years. Anne was born on June 26, 1927 to the parents William J. Tiernan and Sarah Winifred Walsh Tiernan who emigrated from Galway, Ireland. 

She attended and graduated from St. Mary's Grammer School as well as Charlestown High School, and was a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association, where her niece Sally Klessens serves as president. She was also an active swimmer for years with memberships to the Armed Service YMCA in Charlestown and the Holiday Inn Pool Club in Somerville. 

Visiting hours will be on Thursday, May 1 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Anne's funeral on Friday, May 2 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. in Charlestown, followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. in Charlestown at 10. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
