The Blizzard of 2013 … I grew up in upstate NY, hence, what we Bostonians (a title earned after living here 30 years) consider a blizzard is considered a snow storm in Glens Falls, NY.  Granted GF was in one of those odd belts that always received more snow that most.  I left for Maine for a little skiing before the blizzard hit.  Record amounts of snow in Maine and New Hampshire and all was clear during and after the storm.  On Tuesday I returned to Boston.  WHAM—3 days after the storm there was still a parking ban in the city and walking around the Navy Yard was/is dangerous.

DID YOU KNOW?  The CNC (Charlestown Neighborhood Council) hosted a joint meeting with the BRA (Boston Redevelopment Authority) to discuss the closing of the fountain in Shipyard Park and the addition of a new water feature for Shipyard Park.  The BRA shared that they have been exploring the addition of a water feature next to the existing play ground and behind the Korean War Memorial.  What was introduced for discussion is a “splash pad” which could entertain as many as 50 children.  Among those attending included a representative from, our good neighbor, MGH pointing out that the noise level in that area of the yard is bound to increase.  Others in attendance suggested that the BRA figure out a way to make the existing “water feature” i.e. fountain area safe.  Putting up a fence has created a bigger safety issue.  Another suggestion was to post signage that says “no swimming in the fountain” as it is dangerous and a health hazard.  It was also suggested that a a petition should be circulated to get a consensus in the neighborhood.   Do we even want an additional water feature?   What would be your vote?  Are you interested in getting involved?  At this point it is open for discussion.
