O'Neil Rink Opens Saturday for Public Skating

Lace up those skates, it's the season to hit the ice. Also outdoor skating at Kendall Square opens this weekend.

Thanksgiving week not only marks the official start of the holiday season, but also brings ice skating to Charlestown.

The Emmons Horrigan O’Neil Rink opens for the public skating season today, Saturday, Nov. 27 (until March 9) according to the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.

The rink is located at 150 Rutherford Ave.

The public skating schedule is: 

Tuesday through Friday, noon to 2 p.m.
Saturday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. (except Dec. 8 and March 2) and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

And if you don’t own your own pair of skates don’t worry! Many DCR rinks offer skate rentals for children and adults. For those who don’t know how to skate, you can find out where Learn-to-Skate programs are being offered. 

DCR’s Universal Access Program also offers accessible skating at a number of rinks for those with limited mobility.  

In addition, the Kendall Square Ice Skating Rink is opening on Saturday, Nov. 30, 11 a.m. at 300 Athenaeum St., Cambridge.
