"I know families across the city are really struggling in many ways to find quality educational options for their kids, to find job opportunities and to find housing that’s affordable," Wu told Patch.

She complimented Peter Looney Park, saying it was a safe, fun gathering place and that "we need to have more of this in the city."

"We need to be more supportive of the amenities that families need across the city in every neighborhood," she said.

Wu said she plans to be in Charlestown throughout the campaign and beyond.

"I love Charlestown. I think it's a perfect example of families coming together," she said.

Wu will face Charlestown resident Jack Kelly, incumbents Ayanna Pressley and Stephen Murphy and 15 other candidates for at-large city councilor in the Sept. 24 preliminary election.
