Zero Windchill Moving In This Week

The coldest air of the winter to date—by far—is moving in to Charlestown today.

Windchills were close to zero on Wednesday morning and could drop below zero on Thursday morning, which will be the coldest day since February 2012.

The temperature is expected to drop to a low of 9 degrees Wednesday evening, with a Thursday morning windchill of -2 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

"Sun will dominate the short term forecast, too, and afternoon highs will be manageable: mid and upper 20s," WHDH Chief Meteorologist Pete Bouchard wrote in his most recent blog.

As Bouchard noted, "The deep freeze will be short-lived."

Forecasts call for the cold weather to end by the weekend and temperatures to be back into the 40s by next week.
