Week in Review: Woman Attacked, Tavern Closes

A look at some of the top stories on Charlestown Patch last week.

Life gets busy, and Patch certainly understands that. So with that in mind, here are a few stories you might have missed on Charlestown Patch this week:

  1. Woman Attacked Outside Charlestown T Station—A woman was attacked and robbed while walking home from the Bunker Hill Community College T stop on Saturday, Nov. 24. She later spoke about the attack to WHDH reporters.
  2. Tavern on the Water Closes Its Doors—Tavern on the Water in Charlestown has closed for good.
  3. New CNC Member Promises Fresh Perspective—Local residents elected a new member to the Charlestown Neighborhood Council on Nov. 18, choosing Amanda Reinfeld along with six incumbents to serve in the council's seven at-large seats. Reinfeld recently sat down with Patch to introduce herself and talk about what she hopes to accomplish on the CNC.
  4. Shipyard Quarters Marina Hearing Set Dec. 12—The Boston Conservation Commission will hold a public enforcement hearing on the conditions of the Shipyard Quarters Marina in the Charlestown Navy Yard on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at City Hall.
  5. Police Reports: Woman Grabbed by Man in Car—A woman was grabbed from behind by an unknown male suspect while walking down Bunker Hill Street on Sunday, Nov. 25.
  6. Shaw’s Providing Free Shuttle for Charlestown Residents—Charlestown residents have another way of getting groceries now that Johnnie’s Foodmasterhas closed. Members of the Charlestown Neighborhood Council and others met Tuesday afternoon to finalize plans for a free shuttle offered through national grocery chain Shaw’s.
  7. City Council Looks To Prevent Long Election Day Lines—District 2 Boston City Councilor Bill Linehan said he believes there is no reason for voters to wait in line for extended periods, and he offered several ways to improve Election Day waiting times at Wednesday's Boston City Council meeting.
  8. City Council Talks Zoning for Marijuana Dispensaries—Massachusetts voters spoke loud and clearly on Election Day by overwhelmingly supporting the legalization of medical marijuana starting Jan. 1. Now Boston has to figure out where the medical marijuana dispensaries will be located within the city.  
  9. Suffolk DA Official: Convicts Released Have ‘100 Percent Chance’ of Reoffending—Four violent convicts have been released and re-arrested in the wake of the state drug lab scandal, and a Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office spokesman said if the trends play out as they should, it’s only the beginning.
  10. Give Back This Holiday Season in Charlestown—There are many ways you can help in Charlestown and around the city of Boston. Here are just a few opportunities to reach out this holiday season.
  11. Charlestown Woman To Appeal on ‘Jeopardy’—A Charlestown resident was featured on an episode of "Jeopardy," airing Thursday, Nov. 29. 
  12. Two $1 Million Winning Tickets Sold in Boston—Although no one in Massachusetts hit all six numbers to win the full $579 million Powerball prize, two people in Boston have each won $1 million

“Deck the House” Holiday Contest

This week, Patch launched its annual “Deck the House” contest. We’re looking for the most over-the-top holiday decorations in America—the best “decked” house in the country—with a $100,000 grand prize awarded to the winner’s local school district. Happy holidays indeed, right? Charlestown residents can enter the contest by visiting the “Deck the House” contest page and uploading a photo or video showing their house decorations. Entries will be accepted through Dec. 16. Along with the grand prize winner, Patch will select 24 regional finalists and pay up to $500 of each finalist’s utility bill.
