Seniors To Protest In Boston Against Proposed Cuts

Thousands of senior citizens are expected to march in the streets Wednesday.

Senior citizens are expected to hold a protest rally at the Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre Wednesday morning and then march by the offices of Senators John Kerry and Scott Brown in what is promised to be a massive rally to protect Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

The protest is being held as a congressional “super-committee” is putting together a proposal to reduce the federal deficit.  Senator John Kerry is on that committee.

Seniors will board buses in several communities in and around Boston for the rally at 270 Tremont Street that is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. Buses are expected to transport seniors from Cambridge, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, Malden, Worcester, and West Roxbury, according to Jason A. Stephany, communication director of MassUniting,  a group based in Charlestown that has organized protests against foreclosures and corporate greed.

“The Super-Committee – a 12 member bipartisan group, including Sen. Kerry – is considering potential cuts to Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security that would harm today’s seniors and workers – including:  a $112 billion cut to Social Security by changing how the Social Security cost of living adjustment (COLA) is calculated and reducing benefits; raising the age of Medicare eligibility from 65 to 67; and, increasing out-of-pocket costs for seniors in Medicare,” a press release from MassUniting states.

When Scott Brown spoke to Seniors in Brookline during the summer, he promised cuts in Medicare and Social Security. I'm sure he made the old folks feel better. Thanks Senator Brown. A typical GOP attitude.

I wont be voting for Brown in the next election. Any opponent at all will get my vote. Also I will vote to keep Senator Kerry, regardless of what the conservative opposition has to say about him, and regardless of the fact that I sometimes disagree with him. We need him more than ever now that Ted Kennedy is gone - a good Democratic voice in the Senate is not to be trifled with!

we should all profit by our mistakes & ours was believing that silk tounged phoney in d.c. was the second coming of the messiah---he gave you change alright--he keeps blaming bush for his mistakes--you people cant see the forest for the democratic trees blocking you view---his health plan was the crowing achiement of teddy & the rest of the mass delegation---you must sign it before you can read it by the former idiot house speaker--john kerry---a memeber of the super committee to balance a budget the 3 stooges dont want to happen.so when mandatory budgets cuts are going to take place it wont be obumas & dems fault,it will be the republicans--as for scott brown, the consevation*s are turning the screws on him, because they fear the keystone pipeline will became a reality & ruin the decor of the states involved--remember the north slope oil was going to kill reindeer herds,etc--check the pictures of the herds feeding all around the station site--your 51% of tax-payers are supporting the 49% of non taxpayers who want the status quo to remain, even the idiot in the governors chair who tagged taxpayers $93 million for medical care to illegals ,people he wont deport,& free education---way to go fools--the boobs that run this institution are your boobs, lest we forget that when the time comes to pay the piper for thier spending habits with your money
Jan Paulsen November 14, 2011 at 09:51 PM
This kind of vitriole does not change facts. George W. Bush turned a budget surplus into the largest deficit ever - at least up until then. George W. Bush lied us into a war that broke the budget's back. George W. Bush trampled on our freedoms. You cannot blame the so called "silk-tongued phoney" for the aftermath of the deluge. Republicans have been in charge of the Congress for two years now. Where are the jobs they touted? Why have they refused Obama's jobs bill? Why have they continued doing their own thing when none of their policies work? Simple! Because their entire platform consists of getting Obama out of the White House and blaming him for the lack of action that Congress keeps on blocking. Obama has been working hard to undo damage of the previous eight years while Republicans and Tea Party people (such as Sarah Palin and Rick Perry) have continued to spread lies and vitriole about him.

(continued) Enough is enough! These are the people who want to remove Social Security, Medicare and the entire safety net that keeps people like me living in dignity, albeit not exactly in the lap of luxury. These are the people who are blocking a jobs program. These are the people who would trample upon our rights as Americans in their grab for more and more power. And these are the people who are OWNED by the ultra wealthy who finance their campaigns, and who are owed multiple favors as a result. It is not the legislature that makes our laws -- it is the money that buys them! As for you, first do your research, then come back in here with solid facts and figures to show us, and by the way, sign your name like the rest of us do. By the way, John Kerry was never the house speaker -- he has been a Senator from the start..
ed November 15, 2011 at 01:20 PM
never meant horse-face was speaker,we all know who uttered those words--kerry was a phony then & now for his past --very strange that the hero was awarded his 1st purple heart after his C.O. threw him out of his office due to the fact that he was the cause of a metal splinter from a grenade he detonated--true about bush, but remember his holiness promised all those jobs, that still haven* t materialized & of course the present & future monster deficet is Bushes fault.not the free spending demobums--as for palin & the tes party, shame on them for voicing their opinions that the government is to big & following a freewheeling democrat philosophy of spend to the end & blame rerpub*S--look to LBJ for soc.sec problems---the dems took the money and gave us i.o.u*S--as for living in dignity tell the messiah to stop taxing ---even JFK new tax reduction would create jobs---just like the pampeered prince in the Gov. chair----"never met a tax he didn*t love---by the way I suffer like you --I*m 70 yrs old---as for the rich being the cause of the problem, try looking at the approx.49% who dont pay taxes--why wouild they want the great one to buffalo us,so they can keep getting freebies---& he will get re-elected--
Jan Paulsen November 15, 2011 at 02:47 PM
JFK proposed a modest federal income tax cut for working people, based upon his budget surplus. Guess what the Congress said? NO! By the way, Anonymous Ed, your hate is showing, and hate is a turn off. It sounds like Howie Carr is trolling on Patch!
Jan Paulsen November 15, 2011 at 02:49 PM
One last comment to Ed: I do NOT suffer, as you said. I live with dignity and a measure of comfort, mostly due to Democrat programs, and if you are a senior, then so do you!
Anne Justice November 16, 2011 at 01:24 AM
Jan,please don't let poor Ed get under your skin. The poor thing doesn't know that there are other channels besides FOX "'news"". He must actually think that they are a real news channel. So sad really because I know that alot of people believe that and think that they are getting "fair and balanced news".FOX is a continuous infommercial for conserv/republican agenda. If you listen long enough then you actually believe the lies. The try to convince average Joe that they are on his side while they take his life savings!!! They laugh all the way to the bank because they own it and the politicians too!!!!!!Poor, poor Eddie boy........
Jan Paulsen November 16, 2011 at 04:26 AM
Actually, Anne, for a while there I thought Howie Carr was posting here under an alias! I think that Howie's column in that Herald-rag might be Ed's inspiration. At least it looks that way, complete with sneering.
Daniel Marcella November 16, 2011 at 04:58 AM
Anne, with all due respect, the media has been feeding Americans LIES for the past 40 years. I watch FOX news for numerous reasons. 1) It does NOT pander to the left wing or Democratic party. 2) Unlike the other lamestream media outlets, FOX does NOT hide behind it's agenda, and 3) UNLIKE the rest of the lamestream media, FOX does NOT make me--Dan Marcella--feel GUILTY for being a straight, white, conservative, Christian MALE. And if FOX is so 'bad', then why is it been the #1 cable news channel for the last 12 years? Maddow, Matthews, Olbermann et al: IRRELEVANT.
Daniel Marcella November 16, 2011 at 05:02 AM
And Jan, we NEED more 'Howie Carrs' to prove that not all of us are being brainwashed by the left's agenda. BTW, where is Mike Barnicle these days? Oh--that's right--he was actually FIRED from the Globe for fabricating his stories and 'facts.'
Jan Paulsen November 16, 2011 at 05:18 AM
Brainwashed by WHAT? Brainwashed is as brainwashed does! Fox news makes it up as it goes along. End of argument, as far as I am concerned. I have said everything I have to say on this topic.
Jan Paulsen November 16, 2011 at 05:23 AM
Daniel, Fox is the #1 cable news (at least in some opinions) because the people who watch it have all been brainwashed by the conservative GOP "just say no" mentality that they have been fed for the last thirty years.
Daniel Marcella November 16, 2011 at 05:37 AM
That's BS Jan. America is a center-right country. And for a long time, the Dan Rathers, Brian Williams' and Katie Courics have been feeding us a leftist/unpatriotic agenda. But as Americans, we are smart enough to NOT fall into that trap. Case in point: In the last 40 years, the Democrats have nominated for President 5 men: McGovern, Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Clinton, Gore and Obama. Carter, Clinton, Obama won because a) the economy was dismal and b) they ran as centrists. If McGovern, Mondale, and (most notably)Dukakis, was the 'best' the Dems had to offer, the American voter knew enough to run as fast as they could AWAY from the agenda offered. And now with Obama's approval hovering around 39-40%, the lamestream media will once again go-to-bat for him. But again: The American people are not as clueless as the media would like us to believe.
Anne Justice November 18, 2011 at 02:49 AM
Daniel, clearly you are a fan of Fox news and although I am not I try to keep an open mind with the opinions of others.Ironically the reason I do not watch Fox news is because of all the lies that are told and I ask that share what lies the main stream media tells us.How does the media make you feel guilty about being a straight, white, conservative, christian male? I am well read and watch many different programs to hear different points of view. I believe that in order to have a full understanding of the serious issues at hand one must explore all points of view.
Anne Justice November 18, 2011 at 11:50 PM
John, You have me confused with someone else. I don't know what you are talking about but it would be interesting to find out.
Anne Justice November 19, 2011 at 05:06 PM
Well John, no worries, I am not insulted..My posts are certainly not filled with hate nor dissension and I would never fabricate information or spread false accusations.I prefer the truth.I am very proud to be a Justice. Good luck with AnnieO.
