Charlestown Holiday Stroll Stops Announced

A quick look at what's going on where around the neighborhood on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Santa Claus is coming to Charlestown this weekend.

The Charlestown Chamber of Commerce’s annual Holiday Stroll will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, starting at 10 a.m. with a visit from jolly ol’ Saint Nick at Preservation Park.

Throughout the day, businesses and organizations around Charlestown will offer special promotions, activities and other events as part of the community celebration.

At 10 a.m., a trolley donated by Diversified Automotive/Auto Port and sponsored by Charlestown Against Drugs (CHAD) will deliver Santa Claus to Preservation Park, where he will be available to meet with children of all ages.

The Cooperative Bank and Charlestown Patch are sponsoring Santa’s visit.

From 10 a.m. until around 4 p.m., people can visit stops on the official Holiday Stroll map, marking off each place as they visit. Maps are printed in the Charlestown Patriot-Bridge and will also be available during the stroll.

Those who mark off all the stops on their maps can be entered to win prizes during a drawing at 4:15 p.m. at Preservation Park. Be sure to drop off completed maps in Santa's map box before the drawing.

A free trolley will be picking up and dropping off people at MBTA bus stops along Main and Bunker streets throughout the Holiday Stroll. The trolley will also stop at the Knights of Columbus hall for the Women’s Club of Charlestown Holiday Fair and at the StoveFactory Gallery and Studios for their Holiday Boutique.

Below is a look at the special events and activities occurring at some of the map stops—all events are free unless otherwise noted:

Ace Hardware is offering 20 percent off everything in the store, except for paint, on the day of the stroll.

The Artists Group at the StoveFactory will host their Holiday Boutique from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Painters, sculptors, photographers and artists working in a variety of mediums will open their studios to the public, with many pieces available for purchase.

Avalon CrossFit and Personal Training will offer free coffee, hot chocolate, fruit, Santa Bags and other items.

Boston Intuitive will host a series of Ghosts of Christmas Past Tours. The children’s tour costs $5 and will depart at 10:45 a.m. from Preservation Park right after Santa’s visit. The adult tours cost $10 per person and will depart at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. from in front of the Warren Tavern. All proceeds from the tour will benefit the Breezy Point Disaster Relief Fund.

Boston Organics, a grocery delivery service, will be outside Olivia Browning selling memberships at a discounted rate.

Bunker Hill Florist will raffle off items at their shop.

Charlestown Preservation Society will have a table by Bunker Hill Florist from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be selling its new "Charlestown Architecture & History: A Guide for Homeowners, Residents and Visitors." Suggested donation is $15 per copy. Please bring cash or check.

Charlestown Therapeutic Massage

Charlestown Yoga will host a free Baby Wiggles class from 1:15-2:15 p.m.

Durty Harry’s will offer free refreshments and is one of the stops for The Merry Dickens Carolers (about 1 p.m.). Visitors can also drop off dog toys to help the shop out with their holiday donation drive.

Element Day Spa will be selling 50/50 raffle tickets.

The Fashion Truck, which sells apparel and accessories, will be set up outside Otis and Ahearn Real Estate.

Friends of City Square and the Charlestown Mothers Association are sponsoring The Merry Dickens Carolers, which will be traveling around the neighborhood throughout the stroll to entertain the crowds.

Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty will host a children’s face painter from 1-3:30 p.m.

Hammond Residential Real Estate will offer up free cookies and other refreshments.

Haven will be giving out Intercontinental gift bags and will host a raffle.

Ironsides Grill will be selling Anchor Christmas Ale for just $4 a pint all day.

Joy of Old

Nicole O’Neill Photography will host an art show at Charlestown Nursery School.

Olives will be open with a limited lunch menu from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with gift cards and cookbooks available for purchase.

Olivia Browning will host a book signing by Charlestown resident Mary Dowdle, author of “Becoming a Ballerina,” from 12-2 p.m. The shop is also hosting the local Girl Scouts, The Charlestown Gourmet, Wicked Good Cupcakes and others.

Paolo’s will be open with a pizza menu starting at noon, with gift cards available for purchase.

Unleashed will offer pet photos with Santa Claus from 12-5 p.m. and also will give out free cookies.

Sorelle in City Square is selling refreshments.

The Townie Association will have tables set up at One Thompson Square (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and the Knights of Columbus (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) where visitors can make cards for U.S. soldiers.

Toni Ann Catering is contributing a hot chocolate giveaway as part of the map raffle.

Warren Tavern is offering 10 percent off all food during the Holiday Stroll.

The Women’s Club of Charlestown is holding their annual Holiday Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus hall. Shop from a variety of handmade gifts and other items.

The Yoga Room is offering yoga demonstrations and other activities.

The Zelma Lacey House will be selling their holiday cards at Oliva Browning, with all proceeds supporting their Holiday Fund.
