St. Francis de Sales Ceremony Honored Children of Irish Famine

This Sunday, the community came out for a re-dedication of the famine memorial at St. Francis de Sales Church.

Two years ago the Charlestown Historical Society and the Parish of St. Francis de Sales dedicated a memorial in the children of the Irish famine who died shortly after arriving to Boston. Many of them are buried in anonymous plots in the graveyard by the church. (You can read a .)

This Sunday there was a rededication ceremony of the Irish Cemetery. Starting with Mass at 11 a.m., at St. Francis de Sales Church, celebrated by Bishop Robert Hennessy and Fr. Dan Mahoney, Pastor, the event will continued into the cemetery for a blessing of the Children of the Famine Memorial Celtic Cross, followed by a collation in the parish hall.

Special thanks to Robert Marcella for adding photos from the event.
