What’s Brewing at Zume’s?

Not just coffee – local art, fresh-made sandwiches, and more

If you live in Charlestown, chances are you've been to , the go-to spot locally for a cup of joe, a flaky pastry, or a quick sandwich when you want to avoid the assembly line feel you get from some of those national coffee chains.

Inside Zume's, the rough-hewn dark wood floors are offset by low, relaxing lighting and brightly colored chalkboard menus exclaiming today’s specials. Comfortable couches and individual chairs beckon you to sit down and enjoy your latte if you have the time. You can even take advantage of free Wi-fi (but there are no outlets, so make sure your laptop is charged).

Java-philes can enjoy a multitude of roasts, as well as espresso drinks like macchiatos, cappuccinos, and more – including a rotating latte special (right now it’s a Black Forest Latte with mocha, cherry syrup, and freshly-made whipped cream). In honor of fall, you can also indulge in a Pumpkin Spiced Latte, and look forward to Caramel Apple Cider coming soon. If coffee’s not your bag, they also have teas, smoothies, and more to wet your whistle.

… And Bites

As you might hope/fear, they have plenty of baked goods to tempt you – muffins, donuts, cookies, and brownies just begin to scratch the surface. If you visit during breakfast, snap up an egg-y breakfast sandwich served on a homemade English muffin, or grab an order of the filling Irish Oatmeal served with brown sugar and raisins.

For lunch, Zume’s switches up their menu to fit the season. These days, you can celebrate the end of the summer and the beginning of autumn with choices like a cranberry walnut chicken salad on three-seeded bread, black forest ham and roasted pear with fontina cheese on sourdough, or a turkey and stuffing sammie with cranberry-orange mayo on ciabatta (swoon).

Moms, don’t worry – there’s also a kid-friendly menu for your little ones, plus a selection of children’s books to keep them entertained so you can actually, you know, eat your lunch.

If you’re in need of a morning boost, a quick bite, or a place to while away an afternoon reading, Zume’s just might be your next stop. They’ll keep a pot on for you.
