Stop and Shop Announces Free Shuttle Schedule

Stop and Shop has joined other area supermarkets companies in offering a free shuttle service to Charlestown residents while the former Johnnie’s Foodmaster is closed.

Stop and Shop, working with the Charlestown Neighborhood Association and the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services, has come up with a shuttle schedule—offering free transportation to and from their Medford store Wednesdays through Saturdays.

CNC vice chairman David Whelan said the council is working to draw up a flyer that shows all the free shuttle services available.

Whole Foods—which is renovating the former Johnnie’s site and expects to reopen in about one year—is offering free transportation to its Beacon Hill store on Thursdays and Saturdays. The Whole Foods shuttle started up just before Thanksgiving, the week that Johnnie's closed.

Shaw’s is operating a free shuttle on Tuesdays and Fridays, bringing customers to its store in Somerville’s Twin City Plaza. This service is scheduled to begin the week of Dec. 11.

The Stop and Shop shuttle will pick up and drop off residents at four locations around Charlestown, including:

• the Navy Yard in front of the YMCA (Navy);
• at Hayes Square, near the intersection of Bunker Hill and Hunter streets and the Boston Police Station (HSQ);
• at the top of Bunker Hill, the corner of Bunker Hill and Monument streets (TOB);
• and at Bunker Hill Mall, in front of the former Johnnie's (BHM).
