Spaulding Open House and Health Fair Rescheduled for July 20

The Charlestown community is invited to come celebrate the opening of the new Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in the Navy Yard during a free open house and health fair set Saturday, July 20.

Originally scheduled for April 21, the open house was postponed in the days following the April 15 bombings at the Boston Marathon.

A grand opening gala for staff and supporters was held in April outside the newly constructed hospital at 300 First Ave. The event featured a performance by the Boston Pops and guest speaker Mayor Thomas Menino, who talked about his experience undergoing therapy at Spaulding.

The upcoming open house and “family fun day” will give local residents a chance to tour the new building and learn about the community programs and clinics that Spaulding offers.

The building features a cafeteria that is open to the public, with outdoor dining areas, and several community rooms that have already been utilized for Charlestown meetings.

Just announced: Special guests from the New England Patriots and New England Revolution will be coming to the Spaulding event on Saturday.

Karson Tager of Mix 104.1’s “Karson and Kennedy In the Morning,” a Charlestown resident, will provide music at the open house and health fair, and there will be refreshments and children’s activities, including a teddy bear clinic where kids can bring their favorite stuffed friend for a check-up.

There will also be free blood pressure screenings and information on autism and concussions.

This free event will be held rain or shine.

RSVPs are strongly encouraged; send an email to srhtours@partners.org.

Parking is limited, and public transportation is recommended—the MBTA Bus 93 makes stops just outside the Navy Yard, with a short walk to the hospital.
