On one of the hottest days yet this summer, Mayor Thomas Menino dropped by Doherty Playground in Charlestown to hand out Hoodsies and help celebrate the park's reopening after months of renovations.
As kids cooled off in the park's new splash pad and played around on new swings and climbing toys, the mayor took time to hand out ice cream and chat with families, Parks staff, members of the Boston Police Department and candidates campaigning for mayor and City Council.
