Freezing Rain, Sleet to Make for a Hazardous Monday Morning Commute

Bridges and off-ramps especially susceptible to icing and the formation of "black ice."

Freezing rain will coat the bridges and off-ramps this morning to make the Monday morning commute hazardous for Charlestown residents, according to the National Weather Service.

While escaping the Winter Weather Advisory that is impacting most of eastern Massachusetts with snow and ice, Charlestown and other coastal locations will see the winter precipatation turn to freezing rain during the morning hours, placing a wet icy sheen on roads and sidewalks.

"Motorists need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses where 'black ice' can easily develop," the NWS notes.
