The Boston Centers for Youth & Families plans to offer free weekday programs at BCYF centers in Charlestown and throughout the rest of the city this summer.
As part of the BCYF's summer programming that begins July 7, the centers plan to host 10 free daily "drop-in" programs for youths aged 8-18 years called "Summer Fun Stops" at locations spanning from Charlestown to West Roxbury.
The fun stops will take place from 12 to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and offer a variety of engaging, structured activities led by BCYF staff at 13 locations throughout Boston, according to city officials. The fun stops will be held at the BCYF's Charlestown location at the Clougherty Pool at Doherty Park on Bunker Hill Street.
No pre-registration is required, officials said, and attendees simply need to fill out a short form on the first visit. Lunch will be available onsite or nearby. The activities to be held during the fun stops include arts and crafts, science projects, group games, sports competitions and swimming.
"It is so important for our young people and their families to stay active and engaged during the summer months," Boston Mayor Martin Walsh said in a statement Monday. "I'm pleased that the city of Boston has a variety of options for youth -- from a strong summer jobs program to activities at the BCYF that range in focus from exercise and sports programs to arts and science."
