Author Neil Swidey to Visit Charlestown for Book Signing, Reception

Author and Boston Globe Magazine Staff Writer Neil Swidey will be making a stop in Charlestown this May for a special presentation, book signing and reception. 

The upcoming event, hosted by the Friends of the Charlestown Branch Library, is set for Thursday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the library, 179 Main St. in Charlestown. 

The focus of the presentation will be Swidey's book "Trapped Under the Sea: One Engineering Marvel, Five Men, and a Disaster Ten Miles Into the Darkness," which looks at how Boston Harbor was once considered the filthiest harbor in America and has since been cleaned up and turned into an environmental success story. 

Swidey engaged in extensive research for the project, looking at the lives of commercial divers as well as aspects of civil engineering and corporate litigation. For more about the book, click here.
