Archeological Dig Coming to Charlestown

Training Field Park in Charlestown will become the site of an archeological dig in September.

City of Boston Archeologist Joseph Bagley will lead the project in in Winthrop Square, which Mayor Thomas Menino announced last week, according to a story on charestownbridge.com.

The park, near the Bunker Hill Monument, was Charlestown’s common, served as a training ground for the colonial militia and was part of the Battle of Bunker Hill. Later it housed a fire house, a munitions depot and a schoolhouse.
