Which Boston Streets Are Closed for July 4?

The Boston Police Department has announced closures and parking restrictions for the holiday week as well as closure of the Massachusetts Avenue and Longfellow Bridge.

Boston Police Department announced a series of street closures and parking restrictions in Boston for the July 4 holiday. Officials encourage vistors to use Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority to travel to any July 4 events. All MBTA subway lines will increase services at 2 p.m. and will not charge fare after 9:30 p.m.

Monday, July 1

The even side of Beacon Street from Arlington Street to Berkeley Street is a No Stopping Tow Zone from Monday, July 1 to Thursday, July 4. 

Wednesday, July 3

Berkeley Street, from Beacon Street to Back Street, is closed to traffic from Wednesday, July 3 at 12 p.m. until Thursday, July 4 when fireworks are complete at 10 p.m.

The following streets are No Stopping Tow Zones from Wednesday, July 3 through Thursday, July 4:

  • Arlington Street, both sides, from Beacon Street to Commonwealth Avenue
  • Berkeley Street, both sides, from Marlborough Street to Back Street
  • Clarendon Street, both sides, from Marlborough Street to Back Street
  • Dartmouth Street, both sides, from Marlborough Street to Back Street
  • Exeter Street, both sides, from Marlborough Street to Back Street
  • Beacon Street, both sides, from Charles Street to Dartmouth Street
  • Back Street, opposite Dartmouth Street, at area where jersey barriers separate Back Street from Storrow Drive
  • Chestnut Street, both sides, from David G. Mugar Way to Brimmer Street
  • Mount Vernon Street, both sides, from David G Mugar Way to Brimmer Street
  • Pinckney Street, both sides, from David G. Mugar Way to Brimmer Street
  • Revere Street, both sides, from David G. Mugar Way to Charles Street


Thursday, July 4

Bridges:
This year the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge will be closed starting at 4 p.m. on the Fourth for a part of Boston Pops additional light displays. The Longfellow Bridge will also close at 4 p.m. with solely the inbound lanes open to pedestrians.

Streets:
The following streets are closed to traffic on Thursday, July 4 at 4 p.m. until fireworks are complete at 10 p.m.:
  • Beacon Street, from Arlington Street to Massachusetts Avenue
  • Berkeley Street, from Commonwealth Avenue to Back Street
  • Dartmouth Street, from Commonwealth Avenue to Back Street
  • Fairfield Street, from Commonwealth Avenue to Back Street
  • Hereford Street, from Commonwealth Avenue to Back Street
  • Massachusetts Avenue, from Commonwealth Avenue to the City of Cambridge

The following streets are No Stopping Tow Zones on Thursday, July 4:

  • Arlington Street, both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to St. James Avenue
  • Beacon Street, both sides, from Charles Street to Arlington Street, and both sides, from Dartmouth Street to Charlesgate East
  • Berkeley Street, both sides, from Marlborough Street to Boylston Street
  • Clarendon Street, both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Marlborough Street
  • Dartmouth Street, both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Marlborough Street
  • Exeter Street, both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Marlborough Street
  • Fairfield Street, both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Back Street
  • Gloucester Street, both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Back Street
  • Hereford Street, both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Back Street
  • Mass Avenue, both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Back Street
  • Boylston Street, both sides, from Berkeley Street to Arlington Street
  • Cambridge Street, City Hall side, from Court Street to New Sudbury Street
  • Devonshire Street, both sides, from State Street to Quaker Lane
  • State Street, south side, from Congress Street to Devonshire Street, and north side, from Congress Street to opposite Washington Street
