Traffic will be diverted beginning at 11 p.m.

By Bret Silverberg

If you’re planning to drive on I-93 through Boston overnight this week you’ll probably want to plan an alternate route.

Maintenance on the roadway will require a complete shutdown of the southbound lane beginning Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 11 p.m. and ending Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 5 a.m., according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

Southbound traffic will be detoured off the highway at Route 38/Mystic Avenue in Somerville and allowed to re-enter at the Albany Street on-ramp.

Traffic destined for I-90 westbound will access the I-90 westbound on-ramp just south of Kneeland Street.

Work will include wall washing, catch basin clearing and additional maintenance activities.

The closure is part of a twice monthly series of alternating overnight I-93 lane closures to allow for routine maintenance.
