Mishawum Park Resident Recognized by National Affordable Housing Management Association's Educational Foundation for Academic Excellence

July 31, 2013 (Braintree, Mass.) – Peabody Properties, Inc. – a full-service real estate firm managing in excess of 10,000 housing units across New England – today announced that four residents have been awarded scholarships by the National Affordable Housing Management Association’s (NAHMA) Educational Foundation, a division of NAHMA dedicated to assisting residents of federally subsidized housing as they strive to enhance their lives, job opportunities and children’s futures. 

 

Established in 1994 and first awarded in 2007, NAHMA’s Educational Foundation has recognized the academic excellence, community service efforts and extracurricular activity initiatives of select residents of Affordable Housing Management Association (AHMA) member affiliated properties.  This year, the Foundation awarded $137,500 – the largest sum to date – in academic scholarship grants to 59 residents in 18 states, including the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands.

Among this year’s scholarship recipients were Peabody Properties residents Ayisha Eddins of Camfield Estates in Boston’s South End, Reina Mefferd of Lamplighter Village in Canton, Evan Mei of Mishawum Park in Charlestown and Melissa Meija of Market Mill Apartments in Lowell.  Each resident was awarded $2,500 by NAHMA’s Educational Foundation towards their college tuition payments.

According to Peabody Properties Principal and Chief Operating Officer, Melissa Fish-Crane, the firm truly appreciates the Foundation’s recognition of Eddins, Mefferd, Mei and Meija, and is proud of the residents’ accomplishments.  “We are thrilled to see the hard work of these four, bright residents acknowledged and rewarded on a national level,” said Fish-Crane.  “NAHMA’s Educational Foundation is a tremendous organization and we’re honored to support their mission.”

 

This fall, Eddins will begin her freshman year at Fisher College in Boston, Mefferd will begin her sophomore year at Massasoit Community College in Brockton as a declared Psychology Major, Mei will begin his freshman year at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell as a declared Mechanical Engineering Major and Meija will begin her sophomore year at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell as a declared Psychology and Criminal Justice Major.
