Boston Mayor Martin Walsh was the guest speaker on March 6 at the annual meeting/Winter Warm Up of the Friends of the Charlestown Navy Yard.
The group presented three awards to recognize community based-organizations that improve the quality of life for residents and visitors in the neighborhood:
· The Commandant’s Award went to Gene O’Flaherty, the former state representative who is now corporate counsel for Mayor Walsh, and

· The Anchor Award went to Mary Schwager, a Charlestown resident who is an investigative journalist for WHDH-TV Channel 7.
· The Community Recognition Award was presented to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

The event, which drew more than 100 people, was held at MGH Institute of Health Professions’ 2 Constitution Center building.
