On February 20, 2014, the Friends of Charlestown High School held its second organizing meeting. The group, co-chaired by Barbara Van Duzen Babin and Lynne Levesque, had met in January to draft a mission and to brainstorm ways it could support the efforts of Headmaster Will Thomas to make Charlestown High School a school of choice through promoting more visibility and community engagement and providing financial support for CHS projects. Attendees at the second meeting included City Councilor Sal LaMattina; Judy Evers from the Councilor’s office; Tom Cunha, chair of the Charlestown Neighborhood Council; Will Thomas, CHS Headmaster; Tom McKay, Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services; Katie Alitz, Charlestown Mothers’ Association CNC Rep; Karen Daniels and Vanessa DeMarco, Mass Insight; Ann Kelleher, Joy of Old; Iola Key, CHS Parent; and Kelly Pellagrini, Charlestown Nursery School.
During this very enthusiastic and productive second gathering, the group made significant progress planning for its involvement in the Charlestown Pride Week in June. Among the activities planned is an Open House/Art Fair at Charlestown High School on Monday, June 16th. More information will be available shortly.
