Community Boat Building Unveils New Workshop at Fan Pier

With summer on the horizon and boating season on everyone’s mind, members of a local youth organization, formerly known as Boston Family Boat Building (BFBB), gathered on Friday, May 16 for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil their newly designed workshop at Fan Pier.

The event showcased the organizations new location and amenities for students of the program, which combines hands on math, a practical application of geometry and real world experience for low-income area students. The program’s founder, John Rowse, as well as Massachusetts Environmental Protection Agency Program Chief Ben Lynch and Executive Vice President of The Fallon Company, Richard Martini were all on hand to celebrate the event.

Guests in attendance were not only given tours of the new space and location, but also were the first to hear the special announcement that the organization is officially changing its name to Community Boat Building.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, students, administrators and volunteers, were able to give tours to guests in attendance and discuss their plans for the upcoming season.

The new workspace, which was donated by The Fallon Company, developers of Fan Pier, will enhance and allow local youth to engage in the program’s mission to offer students out-of-the-classroom opportunities to engage in hands-on learning on Boston’s waterfront, where their world becomes bigger and their learning comes alive.
