Charlestown Resident Among New England Affordable Housing Management Association's 2014 Art and Calendar Contest Winners

Braintree, Mass (July 1, 2014) – Peabody Properties, Inc. – a full-service real estate firm managing in excess of 10,000 housing units across New England – today announced that six residents have been recognized by the New England Affordable Housing Management Association (NEAHMA) for their contributions to the organization’s annual “Drug-Free Kids” Art/Calendar Contest.  Among the group of winners is 7-year-old Sadie Telles of Mishawum Park in Charlestown.

Established in 1986, NEAHMA’s annual “Drug-Free Kids” Art/Calendar Contest engages residents of member agencies in a creative, community-building tradition, designed to educate children and residents of all ages about the dangers of substance abuse. 

This year, Peabody Properties received entries from 89 residents at 17 of its Massachusetts properties, from which 20 pieces of artwork were selected for review by NEAHMA judges.   From a pool of more than 250 entries from around New England, six Peabody Properties residents were selected as regional winners.  Not only will each resident receive an award at NEAHMA’s Annual Conference and Trade Show in Norwood, MA this October, they will progress to the national competition, at which their artwork will be considered for inclusion in the National Affordable Housing Management Association’s (NAHMA) 2015 calendar.

According to Peabody Properties Principal and Chief Operating Officer, Melissa Fish-Crane, NEAHMA’s annual “Drug-Free Kids” Art/Calendar Contest is a beloved tradition that the residents look forward to each spring.   “We would like to thank the New England Affordable Housing Management Association for hosting this annual event as well as our residents who participated in this year’s competition,” said Fish-Crane.  “Not only is this a fun-filled tradition, it presents an important opportunity to educate residents – young and old alike – about the dangers of substance abuse.”   

Additional Peabody Properties residents among this year’s NEAHMA “Drug-Free Kids” Art/Calendar Contest winners included 6-year-old Axel Luna of Market Mill Apartments in Lowell, 14-year-old Winnie Mei of Charlesview Residences in Allston, 41-year-old Kelly Stapleton of Mt. Pleasant Apartments in Somerville, 27-year-old Johnny Torres, Jr. of Edgewater Apartments in Springfield and 76-year-old Gloria Zaqoarella of Victory Gardens in East Boston.
