War of 1812/USS Constitution
Victory Day Bicentennial Commemoration.

On the weekend of August 18-19 the USS Constitution
1812 Marine Guard
will be hosting the War of 1812/USS Constitution Victory Day Bicentennial Commemoration at the
Charlestown Navy Yard.  Commemorating the
beginning of the War of 1812 and the USS Constitution’s victory over the HMS Guerriere, the weekend long event will
feature reenactors from the United States and Canada portraying American and
British forces that clashed in the War of 1812. There will be encampments,
soldiers drilling, historical music and dancing, musket and cannon firing
demonstrations, as well as a small recreated battle at Barry Field on Saturday
afternoon at 1:30.  Come and learn about
this important but unfamiliar war and experience the sights, sounds, weapons,
equipment and uniforms of America’s second war with Great Britain.

One of the Navy's oldest shipbuilding facilities, Charlestown Navy Yard is a must visit for anyone with an interest in American history. The shipyard is located at the north end of the Freedom Trail. Both the famous USS Constitution and WWI's USS Cassin Young are berthed at the shipyard and open for tour. The yard is maintained by the U.S. National Park Service and houses a Visitor's Center and gift shop.
