What: Clean-up of the “Candy Cane Light Path”
When: Saturday, August 11, 2012, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Where: Meet at corner of Rutherford Avenue & the Path entrance; park in BHCC lot
Why: The path, the new gateway between Charlestown and Cambridge, is a mess!
How: With a lot of help from Mayor Menino, DCR, Rep. O’Flaherty, and others.
Just bring gloves and lots of energy!

The new North Bank Bridge connects Paul Revere Park to Cambridge’s North Point Park. It is a magnificent bridge and is the first of many bridges that will connect us and Cambridge to the medical area on Nashua Street, Memorial Drive, and the Esplanade.
The “Candy Cane Light” Path from Rutherford to the North Bank Bridge is a wonderful gateway path to this area for those who live west of City Square Park in Charlestown. But the Path and nearby Rutherford sidewalk are a mess! The Friends of City Square Park and the Rutherford Corridor Improvement Coalition (RCIC) are sponsoring, in partnership with Mayor Menino and the Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) a clean up of both areas on Saturday, August 11th from 9:00 AM to noon.

On Sunday, August 12th, at 11:00AM, folks will gather at Paul Revere Park for a celebratory tour of the North Bank Bridge and the newly-cleaned “Candy Cane Light” Path. RCIC’s Michael Kelleher will highlight the history and important artifacts along the path and the Miller’s River.

The Shell Service Station on Rutherford Avenue may be small, but the service is great. Employee Tami says she loves working in Charlestown because of the friendly faces that pop in for gas, a quick snack, or a chance at winning the lottery. This Shell has had some big winners!
