Why does the Patch fail to do follow up stories on such travesties such as the Life Focus, the construction project on W School & Rutherford, or even the latest article about the BRA extending developing rights to a developer who hasn't developed the parcel after 25+years?

Why does Courageous Sailing have to seek CNC approval so they can throw a party? Doesn't the City of Boston issue permits?

I've always been confused as to why new business owners need to go in front of the CNC to seek their "blessing" before moving forward?

Why aren't the financial records of the CNC and the mitigation fund that they "manage" made public?

G'day

The break-down of the mitigation funds are on the CNC website. They are also announced at the meeting and put in the paper.

AAAM - Not the breakdown, I see that. I'm looking for them to open the books. If the CNC represents the community, we should be able to view the financial records of the CNC and those receiving this cash. It's all about transparency.

Those are our funds, correct? And when I say "our funds", I mean the community as a whole. Furthermore, I believe there should be some sort of paper trail showing how that money is being used, and whether it's being used properly. There are some BIG checks being cut. After what happened at Life Focus, who's to say these funds aren't being exploited?? I'm confident they are being used appropriately, but where are the Checks and Balances? Seems to me that certain people have a lot of power to dole out community resources to a select few. Who's watching them?

Becca, there is no agenda on the right side. People can check the CNC website for meetings, agendas and committee reports. www.CharlestownNeighborhoodCouncil.org. Thanks Becca!

The CNC has had an updated Website for what, 4-5 months now-and only after enough people called it out on it's lack of transparency? All the little potentates in "da towne" and all their little ego's couldn't play it straight for a day if their bank accounts depenmded upon it...well, maybe their bank accounts.

Just another multiple dwelling housing development.
Does that make it 4 housing projects in Charlestown?
There's a question for the patch!
Or how about,
How many housing developments can you stick in a square mile?

Joseph,
It's very simple,
No one wants to take on the BRA,nor the CNC, or for that fact jack Milerick.
And as you state , why does the patch post they are looking for stories ,but there are a lot of stories that are left un-answered or followed up on.
Ex. What is that monstrosity of a mess on west school st..?
How and when was that approved?
What about the jack Milerick project that is still trying to build?.
What's going on with that? Now they want the special townies to help!
Why is there so much hype for the underpass at Austin St. And the surface
Option?
Is it so the development at west school st will have a front lawn? Instead of being right on the Ave. they will get a 50 foot buffer. Mmmmm wonder why?
How come dominoes gets to open even after the community says NO!
There are so stories that have no endings!

Hi there, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this...but I have been online for hours and have come up short. Hoping the community can help. My husband and I were going to be relocating but just discovered we are not, I did enroll my little guy in preschool as I did not think we would be here. Now we are. He is going to be 3 in Oct 2013 and I was hoping to get him into a one or two day a week program. Where does everyone go that I can actually get into? Any suggestions would be so greatly appreciated. Feeling like I am letting him down.... : (

@Becca & The Patch Editors - Where are the answers to the questions we asked? What happened to reporters that dug deep to find answers and expose fraud? I'm beginning to think that blogging is not real journalism.

They're coming, Joseph. It's taking me a little longer to get firm answers on some of these than I had hoped, but I am working on it. Hoping to send some "real" journalism your way very soon!

I am constantly holding out that The Patch is going to start reporting on real issues within Charlestown, not just little puff pieces for entertainment only.

As Just A Person has pointed out, multiple times, why is the CNC disregarding residents opinions/thoughts, including flip-flopping on voting results?

Here's another question for you Becca

How did the CNC agree to extend (bridgeveiw apts) development (Jack Milericks) idea, to go thru?
After the last meeting that I attended on it, the residents that were in attendance where all against extending! And I do believe that the CNC voted that they would not let it go thru that night, now they are allowing?
Flip-flop big time,
Another item for..... Ridiculous.com!

I also just heard about Tangerino's resturant, thought that the issues were all taken care of by the owner, that the abutters we're concerned about, and they were pretty much satisfied and he was still working with them..
Now I hear that he has still not got his license, and the CNC is now trying to put the squash on that?
Any truth to that?
Another meeting scheduled for the 28th of the month,
I am personally asking everyone to attend and give this business owner a fair shake, or are we going to let the CNC dictate what they think!

@Becca - Any response to any of these questions?? Where is your investigative journalism abilities? Come on girl, I have faith in you!!

How in God's name did that building on West School Street get approved? I usually use Main (Bunker Hill) and Warren Street to access Charlestown, or I'm taking the bus, but when I entered using Austin Street from Cambridge the other day - Holy Crap!!! That building is freaking HUGE!! How does that fit within building codes within 02129?

Was it an attempt to hide the buildings behind it? I'm shocked Mishawum residents aren't more up in arms about this. Especially with the amount of sunlight blocked by this enormous building.

Yet, the owner of 40 Warren Street is trying to expand and increase his own property, but isn't allowed because the CNC says no. Which again, doesn't really make sense, unless they know people in City Hall and tells them what to approve and what not to approve. Right? I would still love to know the relationship there.

So many questions, still no answers.

I would like to know why the bridge repair on Rt 99 is taking so long??? This is why Sullivan Square is such a mess. If they can put up a building on West School St in the winter, they can work on the bridge. When they finish the incoming piece, are they then going to close down the outgoing piece as well? We're talking a decade!!!

I agree,
They have torn down, and built a 5 story building in less time than to replace the 2 lane bridge.
They even replaced 6, 8 lane bridges on Rte 93 in less time.
Somebody should be looking into this construction.
Lastly, open up the underpass northbound and relieve the traffic from Rutherford Ave!

I agree with others who have expressed anger and concern over the monstrosity of a development next to Zelma Lacey.

Another question- over a year ago I heard that Seadog would be opening a brewpub in Charlestown which seemed like a good fit for the Navy Yard, but nothing happened. I wonder if this might be a related issue to what others are asking about the CNC 'reviewing' new businesses coming in.

Are there any plans for new bars or restaurants in Charlestown? I love all the new development and am excited for all the new neighbors but I really think that there has to be some new restaurants and bars to satisfy a growing population. Is there currently anything in the works or plans by the city to loosen up on commercial real estate??

Along the same line as new restaurants, any idea what is going to go into the newly vacated Citibank space in City Square? Great location, I hope it's not another bank or office.....
