Woman Knocked Unconscious, Loses Teeth in Halloween Attack

Police report that a brutal attack on a 26-year-old woman knocked her unconscious on Halloween night.
The woman reports being struck on the back of the head and knocked out. Police met with her the next morning after friends had taken her to Massachusetts General Hospital. She was suffering from injuries to her face, mouth and arm, police report.
But that doesn't describe her whole ordeal. As WBZ reports, the woman's friends say she was also dragged across the grass, lost several teeth and had her sweater torn off. Police told WBZ the woman was not sexually assaulted.
The victim had been walking home from a convenience store when the attack took place in the area of Lawrence Street near the Phipps Street Burying Ground. The woman was able to get herself home, where she passed out again. Friends helped her get to the hospital about 4 a.m. on Nov. 1, police say.
Some neighbors were shocked at the brutality.
"This used to be place where wives and mothers felt safe to walk the streets," neighbor Sean Riley told 7News. "I wish it was again."

How are we supposed to get home? We walk with a friend and then what, they have to sleep over until it's safe in the morning to walk again? Do we need to call for police escorts?

If the Charlestown Patch had their ear to the ground, this should have been reported the next day. To report it on Saturday is a disservice to the entire community. Many were walking home on Thursday and Friday evening not knowing about this vicious attack. My prayers to the young woman who was brutally assaulted.

I hope this young woman is going to be OK and recovering from her injuries. I find it odd that this horrific assault isn't being discussed more openly with regards to keeping the community safe and on the alert for this sick bastard. I wonder if this was a random attack or if she knew her attacker?

Charlestown has a police station in the neighborhood. Why is it that I percieve a lack of officer presence on the streets? I don't own a vehicle and walk pretty much everywhere, and I never see beat cops out and about, patrol cars or otherwise. Charlestown is the ideal Boston neighborhood for police officers to get out and meet the residents. I starting to feel like the police have other things to worry about. I would love some clarification from some of the brass at the station.

Cromes like this are difficult to investigate. If you know how to track down the perp then why don't you, and then report them to the police? Be honest, no one is going to go all vigilante. How about we, as a community, engage the local BPD office and ask why there seems to be a lack of officer presense on the streets of Charlestown. But, you've made it clear that you are unwilling to work with anyone who hasn't lived in Charlestown since 1628.

Back then we had our own way of dealing with problems, it may not have been legal, but at least your, mother,sister,or daughter did not have to fear to walk down the street.
And to answer your post Owen c , I personally have tryed the legal road ,I have reported crimes, I have also identified the offenders. That is why I can make the statement " that no one is going to jail" .
Better stop believing in the perfect world, cause that is not going to happen.

I grew up in South Philly, as I've stated several times before. Charlestown has absolutely nothing on the that place. You all wax nostalgic for a time that you think was better. It's pathetic. Seriously, listen to yourself. You're advocating everyone packing hear and taking the law into their own hands. That's chaos.

Owen - a few years ago, they started bike patrols in full force, for a couple months. Then it disappeared. Why that is, I do not know? Their lack of patrols coincided with an increase in other various situations throughout the neighborhood.One would think with an upsurge in A&B and B&E that we've been reading about, the CNC would be a lot more vocal. They are supposed to be looking out for the greater good of our community, right?
JAP - I agree 100%. Firmly believe in the 2nd and a registered LTC. Reporting crimes does not pay. Too many times crimes are reported and nothing comes of it, including a failure to increase BPD presence.
I hope this woman is recovering quickly and safely at home. That really is the issue at hand here, as well as finding out who would do such a horrific crime.

There is a lot missing here.
The story states that she wasn't sexually assaulted, so what was the purpose of the attack? Was she robbed, or was it racially-motivated? Was she attacked by a man or a woman? Or both? Did she have an encounter in the store before the attack with her assailant(s)?
The person or persons who did this needs to spend a ton of time in jail.

Who ever the young lady is I hope she's feeling better! The sad thing is once something like this happens to you, you'll be looking over your back & all around 24/7 & that's horrible! No one should have to live like that whether your a women or a man. There are people in our society that don't respect or care about anyone or anything & that is so sad & the only thing we can do is stay aware & if someone appears that they might be up to something report it, if its safe for you to do so. Hopefully within time sooner than later they'll catch the cowards who have no respect for others. For now I wish the young lady well & we all have to do our best to keep our families & ourselves safe.
