Connolly. I don't know anything about him, but I know too much about Menino.

i would like to see Flix Arroyo run, but if he doesn't I would vote for Connolly. The Mayor's recent health problem signal a significant concern. I think he has done great things for Boston, but I agree that it is time for a change. Even more, I think it's time for Menino to retire and enjoy life with his wife and grandchildren. If he doesn't take the opportunity now to rest and enjoy life, the opportunity may pass.

Mayor Menino has turned Boston into a world class City. There was once a day when everyone was flocking to the suburbs, but not anymore thanks to Mayor Menino.

Say Good-Bye Tom. Yeah, Mumbles has been great, lots of improvements, but really have the schools improved. I am sick of his parsing out the city to developers and high rise, high rent towers. He has created a parking nightmare in Boston, too little on street and public parking, yet big revenues created with his Ticket Team! I know people who won't come to Boston to shop or seek out entertainment, He may very well want to die in office? Connolly, NO-Not enough time served on council or as a public service. Arroyo, Yes, but in time. Watch out for the little slime ball Mike Ross, one of the jerk young turks. Maybe he needs to stop supping at down town eateries and get up into his humble district! There really is not great leadership that is seasoned enough of the current council. Pressley in time is one to watch for, maybe our first female & black mayor! Good thing the Beacon Hill corner office is in sights and that Scott Brown is not a Boston resident or maybe we'd be looking at him. It would be refreshing to listen to an articulate, clear speaker who represents the people!

Why is Connolly throwing his political career in the toilet? He will lose far worse than Flaherty did. Are they planning on practicing law together? Just because the Phoenix said John had no balls doesn't mean he should have them crushed to prove them wrong. I say Connolly gets less than 30% of the vote and will soon join Mullen, Hennigan, Yoon, and Flaherty in the haters club. What's his platform any way, expired food in cafeterias?

Mayor Menino has been the best mayor this city has had in my lifetime (66 years). He is not perfect. Who is? Boston is dynamic. It is prospering when many other big cities are in financial trouble. Crime is still a problem but nothing like it is in other urban centers. The schools have improved and continue to do so regardless of the bad press they receive and the criticsm from many who have not entered a public city school in years. Rebuilding is going on in all neighborhoods (see recent stories on the East Boston developments) as well as in the downtown area. I know he has had health problems but even while he was laid up he continued to manage the city (see the story of his stay at the Parkman House). This man has been good for business, for residents, for children, and for the future of this city. He will get my vote and he gets my gratitude.

It is way too simplistic to say that the mayor is directly responsible for the city's prosperity (or its when it's down on its luck). Lots of actors contribute to that. A mayor can set a tone and establish a vision, but a city is a very complex organism. On principle, I don't think anyone should serve as long as Menino has. He's done some great stuff, including requiring new building to be LEED-compliant, the Innovation District (although it's still more a marketing campaign than anything else), and the executive order on inclusionary house, even though that has hardly put a dent in the affordability issues for the city. The dark side is his thin skin, the perception that developers have to pay (donate to his campaign or a pet charity) to play in this town. And the BRA, which is entirely controlled by the mayor, remains the biggest single black mark on his record — lack of accountability, failure to support community desires when they don't align with staff (and mayoral) priorities, total lack of transparency. On the basis of that alone I think the time has come for him to leave.

Let us please remember that the City Council and our state legislators also impact Boston by their actions (or lack thereof), so stop blaming the issues in Boston JUST on Menino, John also has played a part in the good and not-so-good issues that impact our city, just as all the city councilors do.

After all, ALL the issues are impacted by politics. I have had enough experience over the years, especially when trying to retain funding for the BPS Spec Ed PAC, to know how it all works - if you want to get something changed you make deals and compromise, otherwise it doesn't happen - which is (somewhat) how it is supposed to work. So folks, when blaming Menino try to remember - he is the figurehead and generally has to have the support of the city councilors to make things happen.

The CC also needs to prioritize what to work on, and usually do so according to what the needs are and the public has a lot to do with that. If you want something changed (like parking), work on it - make calls, tweet, create a facebook, get others of like mind involved,go to City Hall & testify! Make it a priority by getting enough people involved, city-wide, THEN you may see it fixed! And don't just complain, make suggestions for solving the issues!

If YOU aren't willing to do the work to make changes or make it a priority, why would anyone else? I have my own priorities & yes, I have done all of the above!

Connolly seems impulsive. He was to driven, or so he says, by his disappointment in BPS reform. So why isn't he trying to become the superintendent or chair of the school board? Education improvement is a big project that take time, and no one person dictates.

And who knows what else he gives two whiffs about. This is a big city with lots of moving parts. I'd like him to be responsible for parts of the city then we'll see how he does.

And there's this, Connolly is at-large counselor in my district. He is no where near as available as the city Councillor for my district. He's smart -- Roxbury Latin, Harvard, and my guess is he's hard working but I'd like to hear that from someone who's worked with him but he doesn't seem to like being around people. I could be convinced otherwise but I don;t see it now.

Mayor Menino has done one thing very well: plastering his name all over the city. If anyone else should be elected mayor, we would need to spend lots of $$ on new signs or at least getting rid of the old ones.

I've liked Menino but I think he should step down and allow some new blood in the mayor's office. I'm not sure Connolly is that new blood though.
