2013 Bunker Hill Day/Charlestown Pride Week Schedule

From the Mothers Association's Touch A Truck to the annual Mummers concert to the Bunker Hill Day Parade, there is lots to do June 8-17 in Charlestown.

Bunker Hill Day is coming up on June 17, and there are plenty of great activities happening during the week leading up to the holiday.

Boston Police Department Area A-1 Open House (Postponed) 

Date: Saturday, June 8 
Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  
Location: Boston Police District A-1 Station, 20 Vine St.  
Admission: Free   
About: Because so many of the activities, including a bounce house and fingerprinting station, were planned to be outdoors, this event has been postponed, with rain in Saturday's forecast. Patch will post the new date when it is decided.

Touch-A-Truck

Date: Sunday, June 9
Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Location: Bunker Hill Community College parking lot, 250 Rutherford Ave.

About: Truck Day offers more than 25 vehicles for kids to touch, climb on and learn about—there will be a fire truck, dump truck, police cruiser, city bus, duck tour, ice cream truck, ambulance and more. There will also be train rides on the Roaming Railroad and free kids’ tattoos.

CHAD March Against Drugs

Date: Monday, June 10
Time: Starts at 6 p.m.

About: In case of inclement weather, the parade will continue as planned, ending at Edwards School instead of Eden Park for the scheduled speakers.

Elderly Ice Cream Party

Peter Looney Night

Annual Edna Kelly Doll Carriage Parade

About: One of the oldest events of Charlestown Pride Week, the doll carriage parade is more than 60 years old and is open to boys and girls of all ages (typically around 2-9 years old). Kids often dress up in various themes or costumes and can participate with doll carriages, wagons and similar vehicles. Participation is free, but register by Friday, June 14 using the form in the Charlestown Patriot-Bridge newspaper or by emailing ekdollcarriageparade@outlook.com. Every registered child will receive a prize. In case of rain, the parade will be held indoors at the Charlestown Community Center (255 Medford St.).

Charlestown Chamber of Commerce Annual Street Fair

About: Shop and explore an open market featuring local businesses and nonprofits. Get rid of old medications safely by turning them in at a table at the street fair—and receive a $5 gift certificate to local businesses. The Prescription Take-Back is sponsored by the Charlestown Substance Abuse Coalition, Partners HealthCare, the Boston Department of Public Health and the Boston Police Department.

Charlestown Garden Tour

Date: Saturday, June 15
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Location: Throughout the neighborhood
Sponsored by: Gardens for Charlestown
Admission: Tickets (fundraiser for Gardens of Charlestown)
About: Explore the hidden gardens and public green spaces of Charlestown. Tickets cost $20 each and will be on sale the day of the tour at the Gardens for Charlestown community garden, at the intersection of Main and Bunker Hill streets near Sullivan Square.   

Mummers Concert

The 8K race will start at 9:15 a.m. and takes place on a USAT&F certified course, starts and finishes at the Charlestown Navy Yard and passes the Bunker Hill Monument, USS Constitution and Warren Tavern. There is also a 2K novice race for children and families and fun post-race activities.
