Today is Tuesday, Oct. 11. Here are five things you need to know today.
1. Want to go to Figs for dinner -- for half the price? Living Social (one of those Groupon type sites) is offering a discount at the Charlestown location. Spend $20 for a coupon worth $40, or spend $10 for $20 worth of food. Click here for the deal.
2. The Kennedy Center is soliciting donations for its annual holiday flea market. If you have children's items and/or household items, please all Consuelo at 241-8866 (ext. 1211) to arrange a drop off time.
3. Want to be on the School Committee? Apply to the board, which is picked by Mayor Thomas Menino, using the PDF attached to this post. The terms of two members are expiring. Both are expected to re-apply, but they'd have to be chosen again through a process that includes new applicants. Deadline is noon on Nov. 14.
4. One more thing about the Kennedy Center: Its longtime director was asked to leave her post last week in what seems like a complicated situation. I want to be clear that I'm not demonstrating any bias here, but we reported the news on Patch last Friday. It's a story worth reading.
5. Today's forecast: Not quite so warm today, but still sunny with a high around 65.

The groupon for 20.00 for 40.00 is a complete waste of time! FIGS does not serve ANYthing on their menu before 5pm. Only Salad. I went there at 4pm, the place was open and was told that up to 5pm they serve Salad. After 5pm they serve what is on the menu, even though they open at 11:30am. There are no disclaimers on the Living social site and when you complain to Living Social they tell you too bad, that's the way it is. There are too many discrepancies in the Living Social vouchers and they are just not worth it, cause the restaurants that solicit business thru Living Social, REALLY need the business and that's the only way they are going to get it....by giving things for half price. Every hear of a restaurant ONLY serving salad until 5pm, when the menu is posted from 11:30am ?
