VIDEO: Construction of the MWRA Wind Turbine

This time-lapse video documents the full construction of the wind turbine that was erected on Alford Street earlier this fall.

It's been more than a month since the wind turbine went up on Alford Street, but just this weekend I found this very cool clip on YouTube, produced by OnSite Studios. It's about 7 minutes long, and it documents the full construction of the wind turbine.

The turbine is owned and operated by the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA), which is a state agency that's based in the Navy Yard. The power will be sent to the grid and net metered to offset the cost of MWRA's electric accounts. It produces 1.5 megawatts of power or 3 million kilowatt hours per year. That's enough to power nearly 300 homes.
