Townie Hockey Star Headed for the Pros?

Charlestown native Brendan Collier ranked 143 on NHL 2012 draft list.

Charlestown hockey star Brendan Collier could be headed for the National Hockey League.

The NHL recently released its 2012 Draft Prospects list. In the 210 ranked North American players, Collier, currently a senior winger at Malden Catholic High School, finished at 143.

The rank puts Collier in the running for joining the ranks of professional players in the near future.

The Charlestown native has already earned a reputation as a solid skater; he helped lead his high school team to a Super 8 Championship, and ESPN Boston named him Mr. Hockey for 2012.

The writers at the site called Collier “one of the most dynamic hockey talents in all of New England during the last couple of years.”

In his 2011-2012 season, Collier played 25 games, scored 26 goals and made 38 assists.

Wow. Charlestown really has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to hockey. I'll put together a followup. Thanks for letting me know!

Also: could you have Matt and Jimmy email me? It would be interesting to hear what they plan to do next year.
