I live on High Street and I've had two packages stolen right off my porch in the last year. UPS won't even leave packages at my home anymore, which is a huge hassle. I even put out an empty shopping bag on the porch a few months ago and someone stole that! Thanks scumbag thieves, I hope the box of socks, office supplies, and a $1 empty grocery bag you stole made you very happy...

Not to be inconsiderate of your problem, but why not package up your rubbish and put it out there and see if they take that, if they do you have a win,win solution you get rid of your trash, and you pi-- of the thief. :)

Because they will do what they usually do with the discarded box/bag after they open it, they will throw it on the sidewalk and I will get fined for it. In the case of dog poo in the comment below, you can be sure it would end up on my door after they realized what it was. Can't people just leave stuff alone, why is it every time something is left out someone has to come by and steal it?

that's actually a great idea. pile a bunch of dog poo in a UPS box and tape it up. that will teach them!

Use your place of employment as your shipping address. You're never gonna stop the crime in Charlestown, but there are ways to prevent it.

Unfortunately not an option with my employer, but that would be a great idea!

Get a postmans lock installed to open your front entryway door (if you have one). Then you just get your packages sent via UPS. In doing so you help save a vital service and peoples jobs.
