Have something to say about the plans for the Navy Yard's Parcel 39A? Send your thoughts to the BRA to be included in the official record.
Charlestown residents can weigh in on the Starboard Place development proposal through Friday, Feb. 8.
The project features 54 rental units on Parcel 39A in the Navy Yard, at the corner of First Avenue and Ninth Street. The Charlestown Neighborhood Council and Boston Redevelopment Authority co-hosted an official public review meeting on the project on Thursday, Jan. 24.
Following the meeting, BRA project manager Geoff Lewis said the comment period would be extended to Friday, Feb. 8 at 5 p.m. for anyone who wants to add their views to the official record. Residents can submit comments to geoffrey.lewis.bra@cityofboston.gov.
Comments can also be emailed to:

The plans were recommended by five of the six CNC members present at the Development Committee meeting and will go before the full council for a vote at an upcoming meeting.

It would be very nice to see some street level retail capacity and not just one more characterless block of apartments.

multi-level parking garage open to the public so the existing retail space is actually accessible.

They're going to do whatever they want anyway. Why should anyone think that they care what current Charlestown residents have to say? This is just another money grab by Boston developers who want to keep cramming people into overpriced apartments.

Why not some LOW income housing on the sight, something for our section eight and homeless people! People that can't afford the high rents in Charlestown, let the BRA foot that bill, after all they don't GIVE much back to the community, just take!

You hit the nail on the head, Blythe
Your voice does not matter to the CNC nor the BRA
The both org. Are out of control, residents attend meetings only to listen to the CNC and the, and only then they open the floor at the end of the meeting for the RESIDENT input,
I think they have the cart before the horse!
RESIDENTS should have their say first, and the CNC should listen, after all they supposed to be impartial and supposed to be the TOWNS voice..
Correct me if I am wrong!,
But I thought that was the reason for the CNC to be "OUR" voice to the City and the BRA, it seems that our voice does not matter! They do what THEY want.

Old Growth Trees - I grew up in Washington DC where most of the streets are lined with old growth oaks. In addition to esthetics and environmental benefits, old growth trees enhance overall property value. First Avenue is lined with beautiful, maturing oaks. I noticed that during the construction at Yard End (new residential building and Spaulding) many of these trees were cut down. The developer, and community, should be equally incented to preserve these trees, incorporating old growth trees as part of the master plan for Charlestown.
Green Space - There is limited green space in the Navy Yard. I would like to see some allocation made for public green space at Parcel 39A.
Retail Space - I agree with many of the comments on providing street level retail space.
Public Parking - This is connected to the request for retail space, as the developer would logically want to to provide public parking to make retail space attractive to potential tenants.
Design - In my humble opinion, it would make sense for new construction to maintain a similar "look and feel" of the overall Navy Yard - particularly in the case of Parcel 39A that is flanked by historic/period architecture.
