Sandy Hook Vigil Planned Tonight in Charlestown
The event will include candle lighting, singing and an opportunity for children to create cards to show their support for the Newtown, CT community.
Tonight from 8-8:30 p.m. Oliva Browning owner Abby Gray and local yoga instructor Karen Fabian will hold a candelight vigil that is open to the public.
"We will have candles, some singing, signs for the kids to make and will be collecting any donations that people give—all to support the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting and show support for each other here in our town," Fabian wrote in an email announcing the event.
Oliva Browning is located at 20 City Square.
In addition, an impromptu vigil was held at Eden Street Park on Saturday at around 5 p.m. It was announced on Facebook by Charlestown resident Sean Boyle.
If you are looking for other ways to show your support and help the victims of the Newtown school shooting, the United Way of Western Connecticut, in partnership with Newtown Savings Bank, has set up the Sandy Hook School Support Fund to help provide support services to the families and community. More information about giving donations can be found here.
The Massachusetts Patch sites have set up a page where people can add their condolences, words of support and photographs as a sort of virtual sympathy card to the Newtown community.
Residents can also sign an online sympathy card at causes.com. Within 48 hours of being posted, the card had already received more than 1 million signatures.
