Police Report Catching Charlestown Man With Victim in Headlock
Alleged public act of violence leads to assault and battery charges for Aiden Newhall of Charlestown.
Police arrested a Charlestown man and charged him with assault and battery, Saturday, after officers allegedly caught him with his victim in a headlock.
According to a police report, officers responded to the corner of Bunker Hill Street and Mead Street for a report of a fight.
Upon arrival, the officers found a man, later identified as Aiden H. Newhall of 14 Belmont Street, standing on the corner with a woman in a chokehold.
“The officer observed that the suspect was standing behind the victim and had his left arm around the victim’s throat,” the report said.
Officers told Newhall to release the woman. He initially failed to comply. After two more orders, he let go and stepped away.
The incident left the woman “visibly distraught and crying,” but she declined medical attention. She also declined to elaborate on how long she had been in a relationship with her attacker.
Police took Newhall to the Area A-1 headquarters to charge him.
