"Peter was so much more than just a friend. He was a Charlestown icon and represented what is so special about his place where we live. For now we have lost some of our brightness but the fundamentals he leaves behind and the goodness he brought will return in the actions we try to duplicate and the memories we share. Rest in peace my dear friend!" - Jim Mansfield on Charlestown Patch's Facebook page. Nicole O'Neil

When I was little, we moved from Charlestown and I lived in NH for years, coming back often to spend time with my grandmother. Over the years, I heard stories over and over of two great men from Charlestown, my grandfather and Peter Looney. I moved back to Charlestown 13 years ago and saw Peter Looney's name and heard of this great man often. When I finally was fortunate enough to meet Peter for the first time, he lived up to every word I had heard about him. His smile could light a room and instantly warm your heart. Anytime you spoke to Peter, it was obvious how much he loved Charlestown, all of the people in it, his family and friends, and just life in general. Every time I walked into Zume's and saw Peter sitting there, it made my day. I would sit and listen to stories about his history and his grandkids (He really lit up when he spoke of his kids or grandkids and how wonderful they are) and hear all of the projects he was currently involved in (which were always numerous). His spirit and generosity was obvious every time he opened his mouth. I feel blessed to have known Peter. He has left an imprint on Charlestown and all who live here. He will be missed but his legacy will live on forever in all of our hearts and in the great work he did. -Nicole O'Neil

I will be forever grateful for all of the things that Mr. Looney has done for me, and for this whole town. A great man who do anything for you if you needed it, that's how I'll remember him. I am happy that I became a friend of Mr. Looney's over the past few years and I will treasure the time I had with him. His family is in my thoughts and prayers at this time. Thank you again for everything you did, Mr. Looney. Until we meet again, God Bless
