Today's photo comes from Nathan Blanchet, who explained it this way: "Believe it or not, the attached picture from a Boston Public Library collection shows Sullivan Square in the late 1800s, before the construction (and subsequent removal) of the elevated T tracks. This image of what Sullivan Square could look like is one reason why I and many others in Charlestown are excited about the city's planned re-design of Rutherford Avenue and Sullivan Square. "

Wow! How beautiful. If only it looked like that now. I too can't wait to make Sullivan Square better - we deserve it after years of treating this section of Charlestown as a sewer. One day we'll be able to actually walk to Broadway in Somerville to go to eat without feeling that we are going to get hit by a truck.
