Remember our story about Dennis Smith, the painter of Walford Way? Well, now you’ll have a chance to see his art.

Following the publication of our story, an anonymous donor stepped forward to sponsor Smith to get a spot at the upcoming Art in the Park event at City Square Park.

The cancer-stricken Smith told Charlestown Patch recently that art has become his lifeline, and he hungered for an outlet to show his work. Now, he has one.

“Come on out, and see what kept me motivated,” Smith wrote in a post for the event on our events page.

Event details:

NAME: Art in the Park
DATE: Saturday, Sept. 8 (Rain date, Sunday, Sept. 9)
TIME: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

This will be the event’s 15th year, according to the Artist Group of Charlestown web site. Currently, organizers expect at least 60 artists (including Smith) to showcase their work, and applications are now closed.

What a wonderful follow up to the story of Mr. Smith! By introducing the community to his work a well deserved opportunity to expose his paintings was created! Not only for Mr. Smith but for all of us who will now have the pleasure of viewing them and possibly becoming owners! A win win for all! Thank you PATCH for sharing his story! See you there!
