So who is she? Valle Fitzgerald grew up in Charlestown on Monument Square. She’s 22 years old and a 2010 graduate of Georgetown University, where she studied political economy. She attended Boston Latin School and the Learning Project, an independent K-6 school, before that.

She’s worked as the finance director for state Sen. Sal DiDomenico’s special election campaign and as a district lead in Gov. Deval Patrick’s re-election campaign. Most recently she was the assistant to the CEO at Reach Out and Read, an early childhood literacy organization with a national headquarters in Charlestown.

Valle Fitzgerald is young, but she’s hoping her youth will prove to be her biggest asset in this position, which can demand attention all hours of the day, seven days a week.

“There will be plenty of times residents are dealing with me at 2 a.m.,” she said. “Being young, I’ll have the energy I need to handle that.”

She’s the daughter of Diane Valle, who has lived in Charlestown since the 1980s, and Robert Fitzgerald. She is the great granddaughter of John Frances “Honey Fitz” Fitzgerald. And her father was cousin to JFK. She acknowledges she’s got quite a legacy of public service to live up to.

“I’m very exciting about this position,” she said. “I’m looking forward to working with constituents and learning as much as I can from the mayor.”

Valle Fitzgerald has her own aspirations for political office, though she says that’s at least 10 to 20 years down the line. Right now she’s focused on getting the most out of her new job and meeting as many Charlestown constituents as she can.

If you’d like to get in touch with her, you can reach her in City Hall at 617-635-3549.
