Need Help Talking with Your Teen About Drugs?

Connect2Prevent is inviting Charlestown parents and teens to participate in a new program, help make a difference -- and earn $25 at the same time.

Have you ever wondered how to start a conversation about drugs with your teen? Have you wished you had more information about drugs? Communication about sensitive topics can feel hard.

Connect2Prevent, a project funded by the National Institutes on Drug Abuse, is partnering with the Charlestown Substance Abuse Coalition (CSAC) to develop an online program to support parents in communicating with teens about alcohol and other drugs.

Your opinion matters.

According to the 2009 Charlestown Youth Health Survey, youth who thought their parents would disapprove of them drinking or using drugs were less likely to have used alcohol or drugs. In an earlier phase of the project, the Connect2Prevent team conducted focus groups with Charlestown parents and teens. Connect2Prevent learned that both parents and teens want direct and honest communication.

We need you!

Now, to learn more about how parents and teens communicate about drugs, Connect2Prevent is looking for parents and teens from the same family to each complete a confidential online survey about parent-teen communication. Your participation will contribute to the creation of the online resource for Charlestown parents and teens to help jump-start a dialogue.

  • Teens must be 12-17 years of age and in middle or high school
  • You must be comfortable with written English to take the survey.

Each parent and teen will receive $25 for their time.
